When it comes to holidays, there are usually two or three ingredients needed to make the travel destination stand out. For vacations in the sun, these tend to include good beaches, great weather and comfortable accommodation.
Over and above this, if the hotspot has lots of activities for different age groups and interests and a wide range of places to eat, it will stand out from the more run of the mill destinations. Which is exactly what Lanzarote does.
It has nearly ninety beaches, many of which are covered in golden sand and not black grains as some people expect. It is a firm favourite with more active travellers and has everything from diving to horse-riding available.
It is also hugely popular with families, as the island is a particularly safe place for children to enjoy. Whilst its fantastic winter climate makes it an attractive place for more senior visitors.
It has just three main holiday resorts, the newest of which is Playa Blanca. This town is found at the southern most tip of the island and has seen most of its development happen in the last ten years.
Playa Blanca villas have become a particularly popular choice of accommodation for many tourists, due in part to their recent construction and the great range of amenities they usually include. The resort´s own microclimate makes it almost essential that properties in the town have their own swimming pools.
For the more traditional holidaymaker there is an excellent range of hotels in Lanzarote, again with many of the newer establishments to be found in the south. The island in fact has six five star hotels, with a whole range of additional facilities on hand.
One hotel even has a service for guests who can´t bear to be parted from their pet dog, with an in-house kennel for the pampered pooch. Whilst almost all of the more recent additions have their own spas, with sea-water therapies and massages on tap.
But the island also still caters extremely well for those visitors who simply want an apartment reasonably close to the sea. Puerto del Carmen has the greatest range of this type of accommodation and is a really attractive resort as well.
One further advantage that Lanzarote has is its relative closeness to the UK. Lanzarote flights are generally only four hours long from most of the major airports in Britain, making it an extremely accessible place.
